Thank You to the Drivers Who Keep Texas Moving

Fuel does not move itself. Behind every keep-full delivery, every jobsite drop, every early morning fleet fueling run, there is a driver who got up before the sun, did a walk-around in the dark, and pointed a truck toward a customer who was counting on them.

This post is a simple thank you to every one of them.

We recently gathered at locations across our footprint to do that in person. Food, handshakes, a little bragging on each other, and a chance to say out loud what we say to each other every day: we look out for each other, and none of this works without you.

Who are the people behind every fuel delivery?

They know which gate at the plant is unlocked at 5 a.m. They are the ones who call the customer when a tank is lower than the schedule predicted, instead of waiting for the next run. They are the ones who back a tanker into a space that looks impossible and make it look routine.

Many of our drivers have been with us for years. Some are second-generation ARG Petro. As a fourth-generation, family-owned company founded in Laredo in 1942, that continuity means something to us. Our drivers are the part of this company our customers see most often, and in many cases, the only part they see. They carry the name on the door.

What does a driver at ARG Petro actually do?

More than drive. Our drivers are inspectors, problem solvers, and the first line of safety on every load. A typical day can include pre-trip and post-trip inspections, product verification, careful loading and offloading, tank gauging, paperwork that has to be right the first time, and constant judgment calls about weather, traffic, and site conditions.

They handle on-road and off-road diesel, gasoline, dyed diesel, DEF, renewable fuels, lubricants, and chemicals. Each product has its own handling requirements, and getting it wrong is not an option. Our drivers get it right, load after load.

When a storm rolls through and emergency response fueling is on the line, they are the ones who go out while everyone else is told to stay home.

Why does ARG Petro hold driver appreciation events?

Because saying thank you in a group email is not the same as saying it face to face.

These events give us a chance to recognize safe miles and years of service, put leadership and drivers in the same room, and let people who normally pass each other in a yard actually sit down together. Our drivers spend most of their day alone in a cab. A few hours of good food and good company is the least we can do.

It also reflects how we operate. “We Look Out for Each Other” is not a poster in the break room. It’s why a driver stops to help another company’s driver on the shoulder of a farm-to-market road, and why we shut things down for an afternoon to recognize the people doing that work.

What does this mean for our customers?

It means the person delivering your fuel is not a stranger passing through. Our drivers stay, they learn your site, and they take ownership of the delivery.

If you run a fleet, a jobsite, a rig, a farm, a marina, or a municipal operation anywhere across our Texas footprint, the reliability you count on comes down to people. Ours are the reason customers stay with us for decades. To every customer who has told us their driver went above and beyond: thank you for telling us. We pass it along, and it matters.

Are you interested in driving for ARG Petro?

We are always looking for CDL drivers who take safety seriously, communicate well, and want to work somewhere their name is known. If that sounds like you, or like someone you know, take a look at our open positions.
